Punto banco is played with 8 decks of cards in a dealer’s shoe. Cards under 10 are counted at their printed number while at the same time Ten, Jack, Queen, King are zero, and Ace is one. Wagers are made on the ‘bank’, the ‘player’, or on a tie (these aren’t actual people; they simply represent the two hands that are dealt).
Two cards are given to both the ‘house’ and ‘gambler’. The score for each hand is the sum total of the 2 cards, however the 1st number is dumped. For example, a hand of five and 6 has a score of one (five plus six equals 11; ignore the initial ‘one’).
A third card may be given out depending on the following rules:
- If the player or house achieves a value of eight or 9, the two players stand.
- If the gambler has less than five, she hits. Players otherwise hold.
- If the gambler stands, the banker hits on five or lower. If the gambler hits, a guide is used to figure out if the banker stands or takes a card.
Punto Banco Odds
The higher of the two hands wins. Winning wagers on the banker payout 19 to 20 (equal cash minus a 5% commission. The Rake is kept track of and paid off once you leave the table so ensure you still have funds left over before you leave). Winning wagers on the player pays out at one to one. Winning wagers for tie typically pays out at eight to one but occasionally 9:1. (This is a poor wager as a tie occurs lower than one in every 10 rounds. Be wary of putting money on a tie. However odds are substantially better for nine to one versus eight to one)
Wagered on properly baccarat chemin de fer provides fairly good odds, aside from the tie wager of course.
Baccarat Chemin de Fer Scheme
As with all games punto banco has some established myths. One of which is close to a false impression in roulette. The past is not a prophecy of events about to happen. Keeping track of previous results at a table is a waste of paper and a snub to the tree that was cut down for our paper desires.
